Eyebrow Lift Techniques:

There are a variety of techniques that Dr. Tahernia uses for eyebrow lift surgery. Depending on the patient, he will use the technique that bests suits their individual needs.

Endoscopic Brow Lift – For this method, the incision is placed behind the hairline so that it is nicely hidden. With the use of a small camera, Dr. Tahernia can navigate to remove or tighten specific muscles that are responsible for wrinkles and sagging eyebrows. This technique is most commonly used for younger patients that do not require a removal of excess skin.

Lateral Brow Lift – If the patient is suffering from sagging on the outermost portion of the eyebrow, this is the best technique. Dr. Tahernia will begin by placing small incisions in the hairline around the temple region and remove the excess skin that is at the outer most corners. He can then lift the remaining skin. This technique helps best in improving the appearance of crow’s feet, but is not designed to raise the middle of the brow.

Coronal Brow Lift – For an overall raised look, this method is used for patients that want to raise their entire brow line. This procedure is more extensive as it requires Dr. Tahernia to remove skin from the hair covered portion of the scalp. An incision will be placed from one ear to the other so that the forehead can be lifted and excess skin can be removed. This technique has lost its popularity,. But still remains an effective method of facial rejuvenation.

Am I A Good Candidate For Eyelid Surgery?

As people begin to age, the eyes are the first aspect of the face that begin to show it. The once bright skin tone becomes dull and drab and the upper eyelids begin to droop lower towards the lash line. As the upper lid begins to droop the eyes become more slit-like and lose their round youthful appearance. Other reasons why patients seek out eyelid surgery include:

  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Bulges of fat under the eyes causing a puffy-eyed appearance
  • Tear troughs from the corner of the eye to the nose.
  • Concern with the eyes appearing tired and angry

Some patients opt to have eyelid surgery performed at the same time as a facelift to achieve the most optimal rejuvenated results.

Eyelid Surgery Techniques:

In some cases, only upper or lower eyelid surgery is required to achieve the desired results for the patient. Each eyelid has its own technique to ensure that there is no visible scarring and that results look natural.

Upper Eyelid Surgery- As we age, our upper eyelid begins to droop with excess skin. The first step of upper eyelid surgery is to remove this skin by placing an incision in the eyelid crease to hide any potential scarring. If there is an abnormal amount of fat that needs to be removed from the upper eyelid, Dr. Tahernia will take extreme care that the perfect amount and not too much fat is removed.

Lower Eyelid Surgery- Dr. Tahernia will start this procedure by placing a small incision behind the eyelid so that is not visible. Any excess fat that is causing the under eye bags will be carefully removed. If tear troughs have affected the patient, an injectable gel such as Restylane can be used to increase facial volume and fill in the wrinkle.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery:

The eyelids are a fast healing part of the body and patients are typically able to return to their day to day activities in a few days. Using cool compressions will help in alleviating and soreness and swelling. Some patients may have small bruising, but this will last only a few days.

Face Lift

There are many different procedures available both surgical and non-surgical that can help Beverly Hills patients to get a more rejuvenated facial appearance. However, the facelift is still the most effective in winding back the clock and shedding years off of a person’s appearance. There are many different facelift techniques that are used, but Dr. Tahernia will meet with you personal to discuss your goals and then determine a technique that will best meet your needs.

If you are thinking about a good way to rejuvenate your face, then call our office at 310-614-9701, or request a consultation online to discuss your options. Dr. Tahernia is focused on obtaining the most natural results for each of his patients

Am I A Good Candidate For A Facelift?

People that seek out a Facelift from Dr. Tahernia are typically between the ages of 40 and 60. For patients that are slightly younger, but are still looking for a rejuvenated look, a min-facelift may suffice. Any person that is going to undergo a facelift needs to:

  • Have realistic expectations for the procedure.
  • Be in overall good health.
  • Not smoke well before the procedure and refrain from taking any blood thinning medications.

Facelift Techniques:

Full Incision Technique- For older patients that are having a facelift for the first time, this type of facelift is usually required. When people are in their 50s or older, the face may have a significant amount of folds and excess skin that is consistent through to the neck as well. A traditional full incision facelift will produce the most optimal results that are natural in appearance. Excess fat and skin is removed from the neck and face while the muscles are lifted and tightened. The remaining skin is then layed over the rejuvenated face.

Mini Facelift Technique- Younger patients are typically the best candidates for a mini facelift as there is less excess skin and folds. Dr. Tahernia will reposition and lift the facial skin to improve the appearance of wrinkles in the cheeks. This technique does not have much effect on the neck or jowls.

Short Scar Technique- The underlying facial muscles of the patient are lifted and fixated under a high amount of tension. With the muscles in a more youthful positioning the overlaying skin requires only minimal tension. This technique helps mostly in improving the cheeks and jowls, but also has some effect on the neck.

Nose Surgery: Rhinoplasty

People who are unsatisfied by the size or shape of their or those suffering from functional abnormalities may consider rhinoplasty. The nasal septum is a mesh of cartilages and bones that divides the cavity into equal halves. Ideally, the septum should be straight. However, due to several reasons people often develop a deviation of the septum from the midline that may lead to breathing difficulties at times. Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills is one of the most sought after plastic procedures that very efficiently improves nasal aesthetics and corrects other dormant issues. The procedure is usually considered for cosmetic reasons by people having an over-sized nose that is not in harmony with the rest of the facial features, a bump on the bridge, or for correcting problems with the nasal tip.

Rhinoplasty, like any other surgery involves certain potential complications, and children who are still growing may not be the right candidates for rhinoplasty. A critical ingredient of the surgery is to determine the expectations of the candidate from the surgery regarding how the nose will look like after the surgery. Hence, the final profile of the nose depends upon both the surgeon’s skill set as well as patient’s tissue characteristics.

During consultation hours, the surgeon may recommend diverse alternatives and options to harmonize the nose with other facial features. Certain medications are advised to be avoided prior to the surgery which includes anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen that augments the possibility of bleeding. Natural herbs and vitamins such as Vitamin E, omega-3 and green tea may also intensify the chances of bleeding although being natural. Smokers are strictly advised to quit smoking before surgery as it may damage blood circulation and inhibit healthy wound healing.

Open and closed techniques of rhinoplasty exist. Dr. Tahernia finds that for more complex surgeries the preferred approach is an open technique as it allows a more precise correction of the underlying problems. For more minor nasal correction, such as a correction of a dorsal hump, the closed technique can be pursued. Generally speaking however for a standard rhinoplasty, where multiple maneuvers are necessary to achieve the desired effect, the open approach is preferred. There are many fine components to the surgery which Dr. Tahernia can discuss with you in detail during your consultation.

Rhinoplasty produces a pleasing contour for the nose by refining its shape. Open surgery is administered under general anesthesia. The time duration of surgery usually depends upon the technique performed and lasts for almost 1-2 hours. Internal or external splints are used, although internal packing is less preferred by surgeons. Externals splints can be used for about 1-2 weeks, whereas internal packing can be used for less than a week. Open surgery usually involves bone work that leads to bruising around eyes that will eventually subside within 10 days. Patients can resume routine chores after a week or so.

Rhinoplasty, as any other surgical procedure is associated with certain risks and complications. Bruising, swelling and nasal numbness, septal rip, delayed cartilage distortion and adverse scarring are some of the after effects of the surgery which are rare. Typically several months must pass for the swelling to subside and for the final result to be appreciated. The final outcome of rhinoplasty is an attractive nose that looks naturally consistent and blends harmoniously with the rest of the facial features.
